Help?

I have this thing on my computer, and it won't go away.

*Points to picture*

My Macafee stops it, then I press 'Stop this script', but it still happens. Is there any way I can permenitly stop it? I was trying to delete that $$ that is causing this problem, but whever I go into my Temp file, I don't see it. After I press 'Stop this script', this pops up -

HP Information thing. I just press the X or OK...(This always happens after I press stop this script).

what should I do?

Is that really what the HP box says? Or did you doctor it in photoshop to protect some info that you don't want us to have? Smile

If there was real error text in there, I'll need that to figure out what to tell you. If that really was the window that popped up and you didn't doctor it or censor it, then something is seriously wrong. I doubt HP would put an error message in their support software that looked like that Smile

I would recommend getting SpyBot Search & Destroy http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html and running it right away. You want to immunize and you want to search and destroy. The other stuff the prog does doesn't matter so much.

Then, when that is finished or before you do SpyBot, I would point your web browser at http://housecall.trendmicro.com and run their free virus scan. McAfee is good, don't get me wrong. However, it's possible that your McAfee is unable to clear this particular thing and TrendMicro can.

If that doesn't clear things up, let us know and we'll try to help some more.

Re:Help?

I've ran: Ad-Aware SE, Spybot, McAfee, and Microsoft Anti-Spyware. Nothing on all of them, except on Ad-aware it found a Tracking-Cookie.

This is what my HP says -

I ran TrendMicro and it didn't find any infections.

Re:Help?

I dont think its a virus...Im not even really sure its malicious. Since I think you are probably running AIM ( which in my opinion...IS a malicious virus ), Im going to guess its a Javascript being run by some BS process AIM is using to capture information from your PC.

Since you have never given it permission to run ( have you? ) and your computer isnt crashing all the time take a look in your system tray to see whats running. See if you can NOT run one of the million things running in the background...like AIM for a day to see if the problem disappears.

There are many alternatives to the AIM program that still allow you to use the AOL Instant messanger client....like GAIM for one....without all the intrusive crap that AIM is doing. GAIM is open source and free for everyone to download and use.

Good luck

Yea, I use Gaim. Not so much because of the spyware concerns (although there is some merit to that argument) but because Gaim will let me use most of the other services all in one window and buddy list. Nothing except maybe pop-ups and spyware is more annoying than having 4 buddy lists take up your whole screen.

I'm curious also if you are always running the same thing (i.e. a web browser) when this happens. And how long have you had McAfee?

I wonder if this isn't the silly HP "check for updates" trying to run and get info on the latest drivers to keep you up to date. Especially I wonder this because of the HP window that pops up right after it.

Have you looked in the Temp dir before clicking "stop this script" ??? Is it still missing then?

Re:Help?

I don't run AIM that often now, actually I rarely run it now. The script usually comes up out of no where. (Yes I have tried going into my Temp file before I press Stop this script, and it's not there) I've had McAfee for around 3 and a half months (I used Norton before then).

I'll just uninstall AIM today and see if it doesn't appear (It comes up like once a day)

mcafee

From what I heard awhile back McAfee isn't the best thing to be running even though it gets the job done. It's kinda like the Anti of of virus protection. It works but there are some down sides.

ok. freaky. you might try calling HP support and asking if their utilities use java and whether you should allow this instead of stopping it. it may be their update utility.

Well, today while playing Guild Wars, popped up again. (The Stop this script thing) So it must've not been AIM.
