One day in the distant future, when the world actually has huge corporations operating in deep space, we're really going to need to watch these companies closely. This has been drilled in our heads by almost every science fiction movie and game for the past decade. These guys are breeding aliens, or cloning humans, or opening dimensional gates, or making new Olsen twin movies. They clearly must be stopped. Of course, if we actually had them under control though in the world of Doom 3, then it would've have been a very boring game. Fortunately for us, we don't.

O.....M........F'n.......G
Those are the only 4 words I can manage to utter. Mostly because Im too busy changing my underwear as a result of playing this game with the headphones on, and the lights off.
If your PC has the horsepower ( The game is most definately a pig ) and your wallet has the $50...RUN to Walmart immediately and pick up this game. It will be the best gaming value you have all year....unless of course someone gives you a copy of this game for your birthday.
Ive snapped a few screenies to show you that the screenies youve seen on the retail site arent some Cray 53,000,000 rendered image that took 4 weeks to create. This is the way the game looks dood. Its like NOTHING youve ever played.
I was chatting with Cainan today...and I made this parallel.
Doom 3 is to the current field of FPS games as Doom 1 was to the first Castle Wolfenstein. Yes...its that good!
Re:doom 3 review
1 More for the road. BTW....a small detail Ill tell you about that seems to be par for this game involves this gun.
Weve all used video game machine guns....you fire bursts until the chamber clicks empty, then you have to disengage while you reload and hope that your enemy doesnt figure out you arent gonna be shooting for a few seconds.
This gun gives you an audible feedback that youve reached the 10 clip mark, and allows you to take a step back during a firefight with a few rounds left to thwart an opportunistic demon...all without taking your eyes off the action to read an ammo count. Ive got a case of these guns on order...Ill let you know when they come in...Merry Christmas everyone
Re:doom 3 review
not having actually read the review and knowing how some times the marketing and review can be... hard for my feeble mind to understand (czero, anyone?) ... what kind of multiplayer action does it really have?
Re:doom 3 review
LOL!!!
Love the leet translation d00d!
Multiplayer...hmmmmmm....well...thats a tricky one.
Heres what the box lists
Deathmatch - duh!
Team Deathmatch - duh, but with teammates.
Last Man Standing - Deathmatch with a lemon twist
Each player has a finite number of lives, when he uses them up, he becomes a spectator. Last man standing wins the map.
Tournament - Deathmatch with a lime twist
1 on 1 while spectators watch in a cue ( fcfs), winner takes on next challanger, loser goes to the back of the line. Winner plays until defeated.
Now...heres why its tricky.
If you host a server ( ded or player ), you can make it pw protected or not. Apparantly, id was so in a hurry to get this thing to market, they forgot to debug the MP modes. The result is as follows...while you can filter down a list of servers without passwords and select one to join, you are still asked the password. The frustrating thing is that you can see servers that are populated with players...but you cant join them. id's work around for this problem until they release a patch is to start a server and tell your friends what the password is. I havent played in a few days so I dont know if they have released the patch yet. Ill post as soon as they do.
Re:doom 3 review
OK, Jumped on the MP lines last night. Apparently, id fixed whatever bug they had and it didnt involve a patch. I played a traditional DM game.
Ive only just begun the SP missions so Im not sure if the MP maps are re-used SP maps or dedicated for use as MP only.
They share the same level of detail that the SP mission follow. Unbelievably realistic shadow effects. Gameplay seems to be standard type deathmatch where knowing the map is the key to winning the match.
I was rather annoyed with the map I was playing last night because the run speed is about twice as fast as the SP missions and the map was very tight. I was owned quite a few times by a player who knew the map running up on me from one of several directions before I even knew where he was coming from. Running = Footsteps, Crouching = Stealth but there is so much speed in running you can easily overtake your enemies if you know where to find the good guns. Also, Quake has its quad damage "pills"....and Doom still has its "Bezerker" pills. If you hear a primal scream coming toward you and see a blurry player with a red electron looking effect whizzing around him running about 4 times faster than you can think, that player found the "bezerker" pill. Put your head between your knees cuz you are about to get pummled
