VIRUS - ALERT

Today (3/04/2004) I got an e-mail from the e-mail address I have registered on the Voodoo form, and it contained a Virus. Can't give any details because my system deleted it. The e-mail account I have setup is used only for Voodoo, so whoever sent it could only have gotten it from the site and had to be a registered user.

I am writing this just to give everyone a heads up. Virus Check your mail!!!!

Re:VIRUS - ALERT

Dood,

Unless you changed your profile to "hide" your email addy by making it not public, noone here can send you an email directly since it doesnt show up in any public forum.

Re:VIRUS - ALERT

It WAS listed in the memberlist until yesterday when I changed my profile to hide it.

Today (3/5) my inbox had 7 suspicious messages (see attached) which were marked as spam and deleted unopened.

Don't get me wrong, I am not blaming Voodoo, this was sent for your informatiom ONLY. The likely scenario is that I replied to an e-mail that someone sent using the e-mail addy from the site (which is used only for Voodoo access), and they had, or got the infection, shortly after that.

If any of you feel I should not post this type of information here, please let me know and I will remove it.

Re:VIRUS - ALERT

No Its cool.....always good to be on the lookout. It almost sounds as if whatever company admins the email server you used for your special Voodoo account has discovered the joys of mass email marketing and sold you out.

The check I write to Symantec every year is the best way I can spend $30.

Re:VIRUS - ALERT

ive NEVER had a virus on this comp

HOOOOOray!!!!

Looks I get to sue Yahoo! for violation of their privacy policy. The only thing special about the account is the name and its' use. Never had this problem with any other account with them business, or otherwise.

Never had a virus either (and want to keep it way), but there are people who would like to be aware that someone is @#$ with the mail because spam = poor internet performance + game lag.

Re:VIRUS - ALERT

I've been seeing some very weird messages today also. I have assumed they are viruses. Most of them are not coming to me directly, i.e. my wife is getting them (and deleting them) but they claim to be from the administrator of her mail account.

Well, I am the admin, and I didn't send 'em, and they have suspicious looking attachments, so I did the math.

It makes me wonder though, which of our users, if any, is already infected, and it would have to be someone who had:

1) mailed DM
2) received mail from DM
3) received mail that was copied to DM
4) grabbed DM's address and stuck it in their address book.
5) is almost certainly running some version of Windows
6) is probably using Outlook or Outlook Express.
7) did something else i'm too dumb to think of...

Whoever you are... go get some virus protection pronto for your own sake! I've used both Norton and Trend Micro Antivirus and I like Trend Micro better most of the time. Cainan recommended Trend Micro to me...

I'll shut up now...

E-mail dead.

My old e-mail account will be allowed to RIP, and any message sent to it will do the same.

Re:VIRUS - ALERT

To "Deadmeat" and The "NOLF Community" Here At "VooDooHQ",

I just wanted you all to know that this has been
happening to me also, I have been receiving lots of virus
attachments and my wife too has also been receiving them
(she does not play any games on the internet in fact she
doesn't play games period, and thinks it is silly and a waste
of time, lol).

The latest ones saying that they were from the
support team at my Internet Service Provider (ISP) up here in
CANADA, I proceeded to phone them before I opened the
attachments, and they informed me that just like Microsoft they
do not send attachments to their customers.

The above mentioned e-mails with their attachments
stated that the attachment had advanced information on how
to deal with all of the virus's that were coming through at this
time, "Netski" being one of them that kept coming through.

They sent me to their support page and told me
to download a file called the "STINGER", which checked my
computer, they also informed me that they were also being
attacked and they had heard from their counterparts in other
parts of CANADA and the U.S.A. that those other ISP's were
also being attacked.

I have a hardware router, and all of our computers
in the house have NORTON SYSTEMWORKS, which has the
NORTON ANTIVIRUS program built into it.

All of our computers are setup to have the
Norton antivirus program updated automatically, and yet I
still check it every day, it doesn't take much time and is sure
worth the comfort of knowing we are protected from attacks
from the internet.

My ISP also said the new virus's may seem
like they are coming from "VooDooHQ" as an example, but
in reality they are not coming from there, they have gotten
into someone's computer who might have a link or e-mail
address in their computer that points to "VooDooHQ" and it
picks that up to make it look like it is coming from there but
it is not coming from there, weird eh, lol.

My suggestion to everyone is phone up your ISP
and see what they have to say, most likely they will point you in
the direction of their support page to download either a "STINGER"
file or some other file to help you get rid of these virus's, and help
you deal with this awful problem that seems to be troubling us all.

I hope this information has been of some help to
everyone. Wink
