ID has expressed intrest in bein a regular.

I haven't played w/ him more than a handful of minutes.. so i'm relying on you guys to give me the scoop...

Is he responsible enough to be a regular, or no? or perhaps he bears further watching
???

Shocked

Further watching.

Not to mention the fact that I do sense that he's under 18.

Further watching. I'm encouraged that the player he blew up at... was a player that three of our regulars were within inches of booting. I have "watched" him in the matrix... quietly... several times and my impression is he a helpful guy who wants to play the game the way we like to play it. He doesn't normally seem to get all bent out of shape when things aren't going his way, and he asks nicely for people to quit fooling around and just play the game.

I'm also encouraged that I thought about asking all of you about him before he asked us about being a reg.

As for being under 18... I'm not so sure. Most under 18's wouldn't list their occupation as "unemployed" and wouldn't have had a conversation with me about unemployment, but the latter Mel couldn't have known before this post. Still, on the internet, nobody knows I'm a dog... and only seven at that... Smile

I like him, and I think saying "no" would be premature unless somebody else has something we ought to no. But I'm not fully ready to say yes either. Gorf and I did have an excellent game with him AFTER tagu left. What do YOU think, gorf?

Re:ID has expressed intrest in bein a regular.

While a tad bit immature, and most likely under 18 and unemployed ( based on the fact that he pulls all nighters on weeknights to play with us because of the time difference ) he has always been cluefully mindful when Ive played with him. Eager to learn the ropes and from what I can see, grasps the concepts of Voodoo Play.

He certainly fits the bill out of any other player Ive seen in the last month. While that in and of itself is not a good reason to let him in, I think with little more time, he will make a fine Voodoo Reg. Im not sure he has been registered more that a few weeks...would a 30 day probationary period allow enough time to flush out someones true colors?

Obviously he knows I am one of the Four Horseman....so his behaviour reflects accordingly when he and I play...so Id like to see how he holds up over time

Re:ID has expressed intrest in bein a regular.

Dear God NO!!!!! He's not ready yet. Give him more time to mature.

little more time

I've played with IDWLOD quite a few times, a good team player. No objections here to making him a regular provided everyone is cool with it.

ID as a Regular.

That is an absolute, definite Maybe. He is a good player, but I tend to believe that may depend on who he thinks is watching.

For now, NO.

Re:ID has expressed intrest in bein a regular.

now that i've slept on it... i don't think he's ready. at the very least, he needs to satisfy the exploratory urge well enough that when a bunch of regs want to move on... he can just stop and move on. and he aint there yet, methinks.

also... he is on more hours than I'm awake in the day. wtf?

he could turn out nicely but lacking a single glowing recommendation, we'll have to wait and see. what i'm seeing from all corners is "uh, well, i won't exactly vote no..."
and that lack of enthusiasm is uncharacteristic past conversations about who should be a reg...

f00,

Thats my main issue with him. He is on ALOT which leads me to believe Gorf's theory that he is an unemployed teenager.

Currently Im not working until March 22nd.
(I don't count being and aerobics instructor at a health club for a few hours a week, a real job) Wink

I love nolfing, but even I have my limitations.

My Dad sent me the rez of his new map and between testing it the other day, I checked out the server out of curiosity of seeing who is on. Idwold was on a great deal throughtout a 24 hour period. I say he played maybe 9 to 11 hours.

Now in thinking about this, the weather is quite cold for this time of year which is a good excuse for playing.

I also googled and found the unemployment rate for The Netherlands.

Shocked Its only at 3%
Shocked

So he could be either an unemployed teen or adult.

I just think he needs more time.

Smile

Re:ID has expressed intrest in bein a regular.

I played with him this last weekend. While not a bad player still has a bit to learn. The one thing that really irked me was his bossyness (given that I don't play much anymore and am mistaken for a newbie by some, but still) I don't much care to take directions from people other than the "four horsemen". Anyways I agree that potential he has (dah Yoda flashback), but wait he mush. Smile

Re:ID has expressed intrest in bein a regular.

Um is it really neccessary for him to be on the server 10-12 hours day?

Rolling Eyes

And I have to say, his constant questions and other incidents he did this evening, really annoyed me.

Embarassed

Yes he is bossy. I just witnessed it.

Confused

Re:ID has expressed intrest in bein a regular.

I would say tonight's action closes the case. He's not ready to have the "Regular" title bestowed upon him.

Re:ID has expressed intrest in bein a regular.

As I read thru all the posts in this thread, I recognize that I was probably his most staunch supporter in terms of being a "made" Voodoo member. ( isnt it funny how us Italians make everything into a Mafia thing?)

After witnessing his adolescent behaviour at the start of the 2nd Siberia map where there is critical stealth action happening...I still propose a probationary period for him.

Instead of a 30 day period, ID's probationary period should be no less than a period of 105 years or 211,589 boots...which ever comes first.

I was this close ---->| | to a frag and a boot to "get his attention" last night.

Re:ID has expressed intrest in bein a regular.

I capped a guard, then wheeled around and put two rounds in ID's head from 30 yards because he put the mission at risk by completely ignoring the tactical situation.

The other night, Gorf and I were on with Id everything was absolutely surgical. Since then, we've developed some general concerns that nobody seems able to really back up or explain, and witnessed a few isolated incidents that seem to me to be very much like mistakes we've all made. Nonetheless, most of the time, even when he doesn't know I'm watching, he seems like a courteous, helpful guy. Gorf, will you please shoot me down here if I'm somewhere up in the clouds?

So, I agree. He's a little green and he's clearly demonstrated that he's not ready. I guess my question is... is anything so bad (thus far) that we'd never consider him again?

I'll be talking to Cainan soon and one of us will give him the bad news. It'd be nice if we could offer some encouragement and see if he shapes up.

Something else to think about: I'm beginning to think that the standard by which we judge new prospects seems to have evolved since we started private sessions. We regulars are able to form, from our ranks, much more efficient and flexible units now than we were then. It's getting to the point where I'm thinking we need new maps (working on it, no promises, feel free to do the same) or up the perplayer difficulty a little bit. We just plow through most of the levels most of the time.

It's very difficult to compare a potential inductee to that standard. I'm not sure how to do it objectively enough for my liking without holding tryouts and that just seems too clanny for me. Clanners among us, do you have any suggestions?

f00

Re:ID has expressed intrest in bein a regular.

Thanks f00.. you voiced what i've been thinking.

It seems we've gotten just a touch too elitist here.

#1 thing you all have to remember.. is that no everyone is out to ruin our fun. most of teh time its honest mistakes.

patience is prime here.. and this from the guy w/ the kill on sight policy.. tsk tsk...

Right on....surgical is an awesome way to describe the game play. There is not a question in my mind that he has mad skillz.
Having said that, my opinions on whether someone is Voodoo material or not has more to do with the players ability to operate as part of a team. I could revive him a million times...as long as he dies next to me. If he dies under the map because he was off figuring out if he could make it from point A to point B without touching the ground and I have to search to find himwhile staving off angry Ninjas, it means his focus is obviosly somewhere else. Since this post is primarily about ID, Ill site last night as an example. He was more concerned with taking a screenie because he THOUGHT he saw a glitch so he was nagging Mel to tranq him again. Im all for exploration and looking for easter eggs and the like, but not in the middle of a fire fight.

I think I disagree with your asessment that our "Reg" standards seem to have changed. While yes, we are definately more jaded because we are experts after having played the maps to the point were we know EXACTLY where to place a trap to snag a guard 2 maps in advance. I dont remember a single moment where I had to sigh in disbelief because one of "us" Rambo'd into a stealth situation with a rocket launcher.
Im not saying we are looking for perfect play here... hell, we all know exactly where the 2 way transitions are in the private server and we still trip them, but you can tell when someone is clueless....and when someone is genuinely out to have a good time in the spirit of teamwork.

ID is somewhere in between

Re:ID has expressed intrest in bein a regular.

Shocked

How come whenever f00 is on playing, Idwold behaves himself?

Confused: Confused: Confused: Confused: Confused: Confused: Confused: Confused: Confused: Confused:

Wink

Re:ID has expressed intrest in bein a regular.

He also behaves quite well when I'm on. Maybe he can't tell us apart. Laughing
